To boost support from educational institutions towards city-wide development, the Delhi Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state-run Indraprastha (IP) University.

The MoU was signed between Rajiv Ranjan, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Shahadra District, and Kamal Pathak, Registrar of IP University, at the Dwarka campus of the institution.

With this contract, the university, in collaboration with the Shahdara district administration, will conduct surveys using the tools of data analysis to improve the living conditions of the 30 lakh residents of the region. The initiative will also focus on skill development and enhancing employability through the introduction of short-term courses, according to an official statement.

The university, which is equipped with emerging technologies, including facilities for Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Robotics, will undertake capacity-building programmes for government officials as a part of this pact.

Speaking during the inking ceremony, Shailendra Singh Parihar, District Magistrate of Shahdara, welcomed the move and called it a rational step considering the location of the university within the district. “Given that the east campus of IP University is located in the district, it will be easy to take logistic support from the University,” he said.

The decision was also lauded by Dr Mahesh Verma, the Vice Chancellor of the University, who spoke highly of the tie-up. He said a university is like a “Universe” that must shoulder social responsibilities, other than imparting education, adopting the model of Western countries where educational institutions work with the government for the better of the society.
