Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Friday that October 27, Monday, will be a government holiday on account of Chhath festival. According to her, the holiday is being observed on Monday as the ‘third day’ of this four-day festival is considered most auspicious.
On the third day of Chhath, devotees offer prayers to the setting Sun God at riversides or ponds at sunset. Preparations begin early in the morning, with families performing various rituals. Considering this, the government has declared October 27 a holiday.

She added that the festival is also a symbol of faith, devotion, and cleanliness, sending a message of environmental protection through the worship of nature, water, and the Sun.
Chhath celebrates faith and the rich traditions of the country’s culture, bringing together families, society, and communities, she said.
The chief minister informed that the Delhi government has ensured cleanliness, security, and all essential facilities at all Chhath Ghats so that devotees can perform their rituals with peace of mind. She hoped that the festival would bring happiness, prosperity, and renewed energy into everyone’s lives, while strengthening mutual harmony and goodwill in society.
Meanwhile, Gupta inspected a ghat meant for the festival rituals at the Pochanpur Chhath Puja Committee located in Dwarka Sector-23B. She reviewed the ongoing preparations at the ghat and gave necessary instructions to the officials present on the occasion.
