Thirty years have gone by yet the magic of ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ (DDLJ) continues to live in the hearts of fans. The film, which released in 1995, didn’t just tell a love story. It became one. Today, as it marks three decades of timeless romance, both Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol look back at the journey that changed Indian cinema forever.

Shah Rukh Khan, who played the unforgettable Raj, still finds it hard to believe that so much time has passed. Speaking to ‘Variety’, he said, “It doesn’t feel like it’s been 30 years. I’m truly grateful for all the love I’ve received from people all over the world for playing Raj. No one could have imagined how deeply this film would connect with people everywhere.”

The superstar, who has since ruled Bollywood for decades, shared how fans continue to tell him that they fell in love or even got married after watching ‘DDLJ’. “It’s amazing how much joy it has brought to Indian and South Asian pop culture,” he said.

Khan also credited the film’s success to director Aditya Chopra and the legendary Yash Chopra. “The purity of heart that the whole team had made all the difference. Adi had such clarity about what he wanted ‘DDLJ’ to be. And with Yash ji’s blessings, it became something truly special,” he added.

Kajol, who brought Simran to life, shared that her character continues to represent countless young women who dream of love, freedom, and family. “The viewers who adored this film at 16 are now showing it to their children,” she said. “With every passing year, it becomes more personal. It’s not just a film anymore. It’s an emotion, a memory, a dream of love that Indian cinema keeps chasing.”

When asked about her sparkling chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol smiled and said it comes from trust and rhythm. “We’ve always had an understanding. It’s easy and real. That’s what people see on screen,” she said.

‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, directed by Aditya Chopra and produced by Yash Raj Films, released in October 1995. The film also holds the record for the longest-running movie in Indian cinema still playing at Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir theater.
