BJP nominee Morpal Suman and four Independent candidates entered the fray for the bypoll to the Anta assembly seat in Rajasthan on Saturday, taking the total number of candidates to 12 so far.

The ruling party nominee, Suman, reached the Returning Officer (RO) along with the party leaders and workers, including the sitting Lok Sabha MP from Jhalawar, Dushyant Singh.

Besides Suman, Urmila Jain, the wife of Congress nominee Pramod Jain Bhaya, filed her nomination as her husband’s dummy candidate. Three Independent candidates also entered the fray on Saturday, taking the total to 12 contestants who have filed 17 nominations.

Monday is the last date for submitting nomination papers. Scrutiny will be conducted on October 23, and withdrawals can be made by October 27. The polling is scheduled for November 11.

The bypoll on the Anta assembly seat has been necessitated due to the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena following his conviction in an old criminal case.
