To ensure public safety ahead of Diwali, the Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Services will hold a high-level coordination meeting to review and strengthen security, traffic management, and emergency response measures throughout the city.

A senior police officer stated that the meeting will prioritize improving coordination among all the three departments to ensure smooth traffic movement, robust fire safety measures, and comprehensive public security during the festive season.

“There will be discussions on contingency plans, managing crowds in busy market areas, and deploying extra forces at sensitive spots,” the officer mentioned in his statement.

Given the festive rush, our goal is to keep people safe, avoid mishaps, and manage traffic well, the officer noted.

Towards this end, he said joint teams have been established to oversee strategic areas and provide rapid emergency response.

The Delhi Police have ramped up foot patrolling citywide, focusing on markets, religious spots, and crowded zones as part of their Diwali preparations. Senior district officers are directly supervising patrols to maintain high visibility and reassure the public, officials said.

The officer explained that the intensified foot patrolling aims not only to deter potential offenders but also to strengthen community engagement, emphasizing that a visible presence on the ground reassures the public and aids in crime prevention. Additionally, the Delhi Police have commenced mock drills at various key locations to evaluate the force’s preparedness for emergency situations.

It was reported that machans are being erected at crucial installations and high-traffic areas, such as major markets, to enhance surveillance and crowd monitoring.

Another police officer said, “The goal is to stay alert during large gatherings and respond immediately to any disturbances or suspicious behavior.”

The Delhi Traffic Police have devised a comprehensive plan to handle the expected increase in vehicular traffic, particularly near shopping districts and temples.

To prevent congestion, special pickets have been placed at key traffic points, with officers working around the clock in three shifts to keep vehicles moving.

The official said police teams are also carrying out verification checks, inspecting buses and vehicles, and running sensitization programs under the “Eyes and Ears” initiative.

Loudspeakers are being used in busy areas to alert the public, advise caution, discourage speeding, and remind people not to park in prohibited zones. Night patrolling has been stepped up across the city, particularly near jewelry markets, transport hubs, and major shopping zones, the senior officer said.

The officer emphasized that the force is staying vigilant around the clock to ensure a safe festive season without any untoward incidents.
