The Election Commission of India has completed the first randomization of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trails (VVPATs) for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections.

This crucial exercise was conducted on Monday in the presence of representatives from national and state-recognized political parties, the poll panel said in a press note.

A total of 53,806 Ballot Units (BUs), 53,806 Control Units (CUs), and 57,746 VVPATs were randomly allotted to 122 Assembly constituencies across 20 districts, covering 45,388 polling stations.

Constituency-wise lists of randomized EVMs and VVPATs were shared with representatives of national and state-recognized political parties at their respective district headquarters, ensuring transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The randomized EVMs and VVPATs will be stored in Assembly Strong Rooms under the supervision of party representatives, and their details will be shared with contesting candidates after the finalization of the candidate list.

The Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases, on November 6 and November 11, with vote counting scheduled for November 14. The ECI’s effort to ensure a free and fair election process is evident in the randomization of EVM-VVPATs, a critical step in maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
