After days of intense discussions, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comprising the Janata Dal (United), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha is expected to announce its seat-sharing formula for the heated Bihar Assembly elections on Sunday.

The announcement follows a series of back-to-back meetings in New Delhi attended by senior alliance leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda, to finalise the seat distribution and shortlist candidates.

According to the media reports, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) is likely to lead the alliance, contesting around 101–102 seats, while the BJP may get one seat fewer. Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) is expected to contest 26 seats, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM (Secular) seven, and Upendra Kushwaha’s RLM around six.

While the NDA’s seat-sharing deal is almost sealed, the opposition Mahagathbandhan — comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, Left parties, and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) — is still struggling to reach a consensus. With nominations for the first phase already underway, the alliance partners are now racing against time to finalise their pact and declare candidates.

Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal on Saturday announced that the NDA will reveal its seat-sharing arrangement at 11 am on Sunday. “Everything has been finalised within the NDA. The alliance stands united and strong. All is well,” Jaiswal said.

Voting for the first phase will take place on November 6.

The second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections will begin with the notification on October13, and nominations can be filed from October 13 to October 20. Scrutiny will take place on October 21, withdrawal on October 23, and voting will occur on November 11.The second phase will cover the remaining 122 constituencies.

Counting of votes will be held on November 14.

The 18 districts going to the polls in the first phase include Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Munger, Khagaria, Saharsa, and Madhepura.

With over 7.42 crore voters and 90,712 polling stations, the elections are poised to be a significant exercise in democracy. The model code of conduct has come into effect, ensuring fair and transparent elections.
