After evading arrests for weeks, the police Saturday arrested the main accused, Mahamandleshwar Pooja Shakuntala Pandey, in the murder case of a TVS bike showroom owner here.
Pooja, the accused of orchestrating the killing of Abhishek Gupta by hiring contract killers, was taken into custody on Saturday following weeks of evading arrest.
According to police reports, Gupta, a resident of Kachora in the Sikandra Rao area of Hathras district and the owner of a TVS motorcycle showroom in Khair (Aligarh), was shot dead on September 26 by assailants on a motorcycle at Khereshwar Chauraha.
A case had been filed against Mahamandleshwar Pooja, her husband Ashok Pandey, and two unidentified persons in connection with the murder. Police had already arrested and sent Ashok Pandey, along with the two contract killers, Fazal and Asif from Nibari Mod, to jail.
However, Pooja had been on the run since the incident. A non-bailable warrant had been issued against her, and a cash reward of Rs 50,000 was announced for any information leading to her arrest.
According to the police, she had traveled from Aligarh to Ghaziabad on the night of the murder and then proceeded to Haridwar to avoid arrest.
After several attempts to apprehend her, police finally succeeded after nabbing her from Bharatpur district of Rajasthan on Agra-Jaipur highway on Saturday.
ASP Mayank Pathak confirmed Pooja Pandey’s arrest and stated that she is currently being interrogated. Further investigation is underway to uncover more details about the motive and planning behind the murder.
