Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, on Saturday, laid a wreath and paid homage to Army Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, from West Bengal, who laid down their lives during a counter-terrorist operation in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh of the 5 PARA (Special Forces) of the Indian Army made the supreme sacrifice while conducting counter-terror operations in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag, battling extreme weather conditions. They were trapped in a snowstorm during the search operation, and their bodies were recovered after four days of extensive search by the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police.

“I salute the supreme sacrifice of our Army Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. The nation shall remain forever grateful to exemplary valour and selfless service of our soldiers. We stand in solidarity with the families of our martyrs in this hour of grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sorrow over the martyrdom of the two soldiers. She wrote on X: “Saddened by the martyrdom of two brave para-commandos from our Bengal, who succumbed while braving extreme weather during an anti-terror mission in Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir.
Salute to our Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh from Birbhum and Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh from Murshidabad for their exemplary valour, dedication, and supreme sacrifice in defending our country. My heartfelt condolences to their families and friends. Our Government will extend all possible support in this hour of grief.”
While paying tributes to the two martyrs, the Srinagar based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army, wrote on X; “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, while conducting relentless counter terror operations in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag battling extreme weather conditions. Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us.
