Bengaluru South was buzzing with unexpected news late last night when authorities sealed the popular Vels Studio, also known as Jollywood and Entertainment Limited, in the Bidadi Industrial Area. The closure comes after the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) ordered a shutdown. They cited serious violations of environmental laws.
Vels Studio is the popular shooting location for Bigg Boss Kannada. Now the sudden closure has brought production to an abrupt halt. Reports suggest that the show’s organizers failed to comply with critical air and water pollution norms.

SS Lingaraju, the Member Secretary of KSPCB, spoke to ANI about the situation, clarifying that the board’s concerns were primarily with Vels Studio itself.

“The board doesn’t know about any Bigg Boss or related activity inside. Our order is against Vels Studio because they don’t have the mandatory consent to operate under the Air Act and Water Act,” he said.
Lingaraju went on to explain that the studio’s violations were multiple. “They are running amusement park facilities, some hotel rooms, and a sewage treatment plant designed for 2.5 lakh liters per day, which is not functioning. There’s also poor management of solid waste. Despite repeated notices, they never applied for the required consent to operate. That’s why we issued the closure order.”
The situation has reportedly left 2.5 lakh liters of untreated wastewater unmonitored. This has created a major environmental hazard. The non-functional Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and other lapses in waste management were key reasons for the board’s swift action.
For Bigg Boss Kannada, this meant an immediate stop to all activities at the studio. Contestants were asked to vacate the premises late at night. The production house relocated them to the Eagleton Resort where they are staying temporarily while authorities complete their inspections.
At the moment, there is no official word on when Bigg Boss Kannada will resume shooting at a compliant location. Fans of the show, however, have expressed concern over the disruption on social media, while some have jokingly suggested that the “Bigg Boss house eviction” now extends to the real-life house, the studio itself.
Meanwhile, Vels Studio remains under scrutiny. Authorities have indicated that the studio will only be allowed to reopen once all environmental norms are fully met and the necessary consents are in place.
