The Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module with links to Pakistan, arresting two operatives and seizing 2.5 kg of heroin and five sophisticated pistols from their possession.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the arrested individuals have been identified as Gurjant Singh, a resident of village Dholan in Tarn Taran, and Gurvel Singh, a resident of village Chhina Bidhi Chand in Tarn Taran. The recovered weapons include four 9mm Glock pistols, along with magazines, and one .30 bore pistol with a magazine. In addition to the recovery of drugs and arms consignments, the police also impounded their Mahindra 3xO car, which was being used to transport the contraband.

DGP Yadav said that preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested accused were operating under the direction of a Pakistan-based smuggler, tasked with trafficking the contraband from across the border.
“The seized firearms were intended to be supplied to gangsters and criminals, fueling illegal activities in Punjab,” he said.
Sharing operational details, he said, “The CI Amritsar team had received a specific intelligence indicating that some unidentified individuals had retrieved a large consignment of illegal weapons and narcotics from the Indo-Pak border, which was delivered from across the border with the help of drones in the area of village Dholan and Chhina Bidhi Chand in Tarn Taran.”
Acting swiftly, the CI Amritsar police intercepted the Mahindra 3xO car and arrested both suspects on the Amritsar-Bhikhiwind Road in Tarn Taran. The duo was en route to deliver the consignment to another party near village Panjwar in Tarn Taran. The weapons and narcotics were recovered from their vehicle.
The DGP said that further investigations are underway to establish both the backward and forward linkages in the case to expose the full nexus of the criminal network. A case (FIR No. 57 dated 04-10-2025) has been registered under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
