‘Working for justice’, says TVK General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna after Madras HC’s stern stance on his Gen Z post

A day after Madras High Court slammed Tamizha Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna for his ‘seditious and inflammatory’ social media post, the latter said on Saturday that he and his leadership are “working for justice, and truth shall come out” in the Karur stampede tragedy.

Aadhava Arjuna, who is also the president of the Basketball Federation of India, reached Dehradun to take part in the opening ceremony of Subjunior National Basketball Championship on Saturday.

As he alighted at Jollygrant Airport Dehradun, the media sought Arjuna’s response to criticism by the Madras High Court for his controversial social media post in which he called for Gen-Z revolution against the Tamil Nadu government, akin to those in Nepal and Sri Lanka. “We are working for justice,” he said.

When asked if his party would resume political campaigns after the Karur stampede that claimed more than 49 lives, he said: “The justice and truth will come out.”

Police were directed by the High Court to take appropriate action against him in the matter. Hearing a petition filed by one S M Kathivaran, a single bench of Justice N Senthilkumar, had termed Arjuna’s post as “inflammatory statement to organise a revolutionary.”

Justice Senthilkumar had stated that although the person against whom the petition was filed had the fundamental right to express his views but he was also expected to honour the restrictions imposed under Article 19(2) of the Constitution of India.

Madras High Court had also pulled up the DMK government for not taking action against Arjuna’s posts.
