The Communist Party of India (Marxist) Wednesday strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to release a postage stamp and a Rs-100 coin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

In a statement, the party’s Polit Bureau stated that this move is a “grave injury and insult to the Constitution of India,” which the RSS has never accepted. “The release of a postage stamp and a 100-rupee coin by the Prime Minister to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the RSS is a grave injury and insult to the Constitution of India.”

“The RSS has never accepted the Constitution, and this move seeks to whitewash its shameful role in strengthening the British strategy of divide and rule,” it added.

The CPI (M) alleges that the RSS played a negative role in India’s freedom struggle and has been involved in targeting minority communities. The party also disputes the depiction of RSS volunteers in the 1963 Republic-Day parade, calling it a “falsification of history”.

Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday released the commemorative postage stamp and coin during the RSS centenary celebrations, highlighting the organization’s contributions to the nation.

The RSS was founded in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, with the goal of fostering cultural awareness, discipline, and social responsibility among citizens.
