India-UK trade agreement to enter into force from July 15; ‘historic milestone,’ says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each person who lost their life in the tragic stampede during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. Additionally, those injured in the incident will receive Rs 50,000.
The stampede occurred on Saturday during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, resulting in 33 people being feared dead. PM Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, stating that the incident was “deeply saddening.”

“The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured,” PM Modi said in a post on handle X.

The ex-gratia announcement is part of the government’s effort to provide relief to the affected families. The PMNRF is a fund managed by the Prime Minister’s Office, which provides financial assistance to victims of natural disasters and other unfortunate events.
