Veteran BJP leader and former Rajasthan Minister Nand Lal Meena passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.

Meena, 79, had been undergoing treatment for age-related health issues at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where he breathed his last on Saturday morning.

A mass-based leader in the tribal-dominated Mewar region, Meena was a seven-time MLA and a long-serving minister in previous BJP governments. He served as a minister three times in the cabinets of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Vasundhara Raje.

He also represented the Salumber (ST) parliamentary constituency once in the Lok Sabha on a BJP ticket.

His son, Hemant Meena, is currently a member of the Bhajan Lal Sharma cabinet in Rajasthan.

Several dignitaries, including Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade, Sikkim Governor Om Mathur, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, and senior Congress leader and former Lok Sabha MP Raghuveer Meena, condoled his demise.

Governor Bagade expressed deep grief over the passing of the former minister and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.

Sikkim Governor Om Mathur described Meena’s demise as the loss of a “personal friend.”

Chief Minister Sharma said, “The news of the former minister’s death has deeply saddened me. I pray for eternal peace for the departed leader and strength for the bereaved family to bear this loss.”
