Singh is wanted by the Punjab Police for extortion, attempt to murder, and criminal Intimidation under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The accused has been absconding for a while after fleeing the country., His return to the country is the result of collaboration between the International Police Cooperation Unit (IPCU), the CBI and the coordination of MEA, MHA, NCB-Abu Dhabi, and Punjab Police.
A Red Notice was successfully brought to India on Friday while he was escorted by a special team of the Punjab Police.
Earlier, the CBI got the Red Notice published through INTERPOL in the case on 13 June, following a request by the Punjab Police.
The UAE authorities arrested Singh before deciding to extradite him to India.
Interestingly, the ‘Red Notices’ published by the INTERPOL are circulated to all the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) globally for tracking down the wanted criminals. The CBI and the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India coordinates with all the LEAs in the country through the ‘BHARATPOL’ for assistance through ‘INTERPOL’ channels.
So far, more than 130 wanted criminals have been brought back to the country during the last few years through these channels.
