Showering praise on Stalin, underscoring his importance in the INDIA Bloc, he said, “Stalin is one of the finest chief ministers to implement the vision of Dravidian icons ‘Anna’ CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi.”
He also listed the flagship programmes of the DMK government in Tamil Nadu like the Pudhumai Pen (Women of Modernity) under which Rs 1000 is given per month for girl students coming out of state-run and aided schools and pursuing graduation, similar scheme for boys is ‘Tamil Puthalvan (Son of Tamil) and Skill development scheme ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ (I am the Chief) among others. Telangana will implement appropriate schemes now in vogue in Tamil Nadu, he added.
Turning towards the initiatives of his government, he said “100 residential schools where SC/ST/OBC students will study together. A Young India Skills University, Sports University and a Sports Academy in the PPP model have been started. The Young India Skills University in the first year had enrolled 20,000 engineering graduates with a 100 percent job placement. The aim of the sports varsity and academy is to ensure that the country gets a gold haul in the next Olympics proportionate to its population.”
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Stalin charged the Union government with placing hurdles on Tamil Nadu’s path towards development. “If a family is developed, the state gets developed and through that the nation. Education for all has been prevented for a long time because of casteism. Now, following the implementation of the breakfast scheme, attendance in schools has increased. With the Scholarship scheme, 70 percent of students who have passed out of plus two, have joined college with over 1000 students enrolling in top higher education institutions. With my government’s commitment and your (students’) determination we will overcome the hurdles placed by the Union Government.”
