Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav claimed on Thursday that Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya shared many similarities in their thoughts, as both were torchbearers of India’s long cultural and philosophical traditions, and they always stressed that only from the seeds of self-reliance and ‘’Swadeshi’ would the tree of self-sufficiency grow, enabling India to emerge as a major economic power in the world.
The chief minister made the comments while addressing the state-level inauguration session of ‘Swadeshi Awakening Week’ at Ravindra Bhavan in Bhopal. The statewide mega campaign is being observed from 25 September, the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, to October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, covering all 313 development blocks of Madhya Pradesh.

He pointed out that It was through ‘Swadeshi’ that Mahatma Gandhi led the country to independence. Gandhiji inspired every citizen to boycott foreign goods and burn foreign clothes. CM Dr Yadav called on everyone to respect our soil, our country, and the indigenous system.
The chief minister announced that during ‘Swadeshi Awakening Week’, ‘Swadeshi’ goods will be promoted and encouraged across the state.
The CM emphasised that today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the biggest brand ambassador of ‘Swadeshi’, and under his leadership, India’s economy is moving forward rapidly. He stated that the path of a self-reliant and developed India lies in ‘Swadeshi’ itself.
Citing a reference from the Ramayana, he said only by having faith in our land and soil can we make our lives meaningful and prosperous. He highlighted that farmers fill granaries only through their toil on the soil, while artisans working in small industries also pursue the path of self-reliance, and their hard work deserves respect.
Dr Yadav appealed to people to purchase indigenous products during the upcoming festive season of Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali. Stressing the importance of collective responsibility, he noted that just as oxygen is essential for the flame of a lamp, society’s active participation is necessary for the success of a campaign like ‘Swadeshi’.
