Emphasising the need for India to reduce dependence on foreign goods, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged the people of the country to embrace swadeshi for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, asking citizens to make the most of the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ to increase consumption.

He called on shopkeepers in Banswara in Rajasthan to sell swadeshi items and urged citizens to prioritize buying locally made goods.

Talking about GST, he recalled that in 2017, the BJP Government implemented it, simplifying taxes and reducing tolls. From the first day of Navratri this year,

NextGenGST has come into effect, leading to savings. “All items have now become cheaper.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s clean energy initiatives as he launched Rs 90,000 crore worth of power projects across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

“The government is transforming India’s clean energy campaign into a nationwide movement to boost domestic electricity production and position the country as a leader in sustainable power.”

Highlighting the progress since 2014, the Prime Minister noted that 2.5 crore households previously lacked electricity connections, and 18,000 villages were without poles even after seven decades of Independence. Frequent power cuts affected both cities and villages with many rural areas receiving electricity for just 4–5 hours a day.

Since then, the government, he said, has provided free electricity connections to 2.5 crore households, improving daily life and enabling new industries.

Slamming the Congress party, he alleged that during its rule, Rajasthan had become a hub for paper leaks while the Jal Jeevan Mission suffered due to corruption and atrocities against women were at their peak as rapists were being protected. Crime and illegal liquor businesses thrived in districts like Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh, he added. “When you gave the BJP a chance, we strengthened law and order and accelerated development projects.”

Today, the BJP government is moving Rajasthan forward on the path of rapid development, he stated.

PM Modi today inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore from Banswara.
