The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has dismantled a major arms and ammunition syndicate operating across Delhi-NCR and uncovered an illegal ammunition manufacturing factory in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, they said on Wednesday.
The operation led to the arrest of three suppliers who were involved in the illicit trade, Fazil (50), Jameer (57), and Illiyas (65), all from Moradabad.

“The operation began on Monday, when our team received credible intel about an arms delivery,” Amit Kaushik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said.
Acting swiftly, a trap was set near Ghazipur Flyover, Delhi, where Fazil was apprehended while attempting to deliver illegal firearms. “A search of his person yielded four single-shot pistols and 166 live cartridges of .315 bore,” the officer added.
Following Fazil’s arrest, further raids were conducted in Rampur and Moradabad, where Jameer and Illiyas were taken into custody. From Illiyas, two semi-automatic pistols and one single-shot pistol were recovered.
During questioning, Illiyas revealed the existence of a clandestine ammunition factory operating near his home.
“In a joint operation with local police, authorities seized a lathe machine, cartridge-making equipment, 257 empty cartridges, 354 bullet leads, 350 empty shells, gunpowder, and other incriminating material,” the officer mentioned.
The recovered raw material is capable of producing over 1,000 illegal cartridges.
The accused, including Illiyas who has a long criminal history with multiple cases of arms manufacturing and trafficking, were found to have been actively supplying arms and ammunition to Delhi-NCR.
Police are continuing their investigation to dismantle the larger network involved in the trafficking of illegal weapons, the officer stated.
