However, the CM stressed that the certificate is not the same as a post-mortem report.
“We have received the death certificate from the Singapore High Commission. It mentions drowning as the cause. But this is not the post-mortem. Both are different. We have already asked for the post-mortem report, and our Chief Secretary is in touch with the Singapore Ambassador to get it at the earliest. Once we get the documents, they will be handed over to the CID,” Sarma explained.
The Chief Minister further revealed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has personally called him multiple times to check on arrangements for Garg’s final journey.
“Amit Shah ji has inquired two to three times today. He assured us of any help needed and advised us on the arrangements,” Sarma said.
According to the organisers of the Northeast India Festival, which Garg was attending in Singapore, the singer experienced breathing problems during scuba diving. Despite receiving CPR on the spot and later being rushed to Singapore General Hospital, doctors could not save him.
He was declared dead around 2:30 pm IST.
The final rites of the singer will be held on September 23 at Kamarkuchi village, his native place. “We will take his mortal remains from the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex to Kamarkuchi around 8 am on September 23. A state funeral will be conducted there,” the Chief Minister announced.
In the meantime, Garg’s body will remain at the sports complex. Fans and admirers can pay their last tributes.
