Jharkhand’s rich legacy of valour took center stage on Thursday as Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan engaged with students at Raj Bhavan’s Birsa Mandap for the “Children and Armed Forces” programme. The session highlighted the state’s historical contribution to India’s security and aimed to inspire the next generation of disciplined, patriotic citizens.

Governor Gangwar lauded Jharkhand’s martial heritage, recalling the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and Param Vir Chakra awardee Lance Naik Albert Ekka. He told students that regardless of career paths, whether as soldiers, doctors, engineers, teachers, or scientists, being a good citizen and a true patriot is most important.

CDS General Chauhan shared insights from his own journey, hailing from a middle-class family with no prior military background. He said joining the Army depends on merit, dedication, and discipline, not connections. He highlighted the Army’s role beyond combat, including disaster relief and public service.

“Operation Sindoor,” a recent mission, was presented as an example of strategy, technology, and innovation, including drone use and naval support. Gen Chauhan told students that success depends not only on intelligence but also on emotional intelligence, teamwork, and continuous learning.

The Minister of State for Defence said students’ artwork is a tribute to soldiers’ courage and announced plans to reach 50,000 children across schools. He reiterated the government’s commitment to motivating youth to consider military careers.

The programme reinforced the connection between Jharkhand’s youth and the armed forces while highlighting lessons in heritage, leadership, innovation, and patriotism.
