DUSU Election 2025: Polling concludes, counting of votes on Friday

The voting for the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections 2025 was held amid tight security on Thursday. The counting of votes will begin at 8 am tomorrow.

Students were seen in large numbers outside the Delhi University colleges across the national capital. Over 600 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the polling is conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

Polling is being held in two shifts – 8.30 am to 1 pm for day classes and 3 pm to 7.30 pm for evening classes.

The counting of votes will take place on September 19 and the results are also likely to be announced the same day.

The main contest for the President’s post is between the National Students Union of India (NSUI) of the Opposition Congress and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) of the ruling BJP.

Left-backed SFI-AISA is also among the major contestants for the President’s post.

Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, a postgraduate student in Buddhist Studies from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, has been announced as the NSUI candidate for the post of President. Her nomination marks a significant moment, as it highlights the return of female leadership to the NSUI after 17 years.

Aryan Maan, an MA Library Science student, is ABVP’s candidate for the DUSU President post. Maan is a resident of Haryana and his father is a businessman with strong political links.

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has also campaigned for Maan on social media.

Anjali, the Left candidate for the President’s post, is a student of Indraprastha College for Women.

First-year students, who have a valid fee receipt and a government ID, including Voter ID, Aadhaar, PAN, and Driving License, are eligible to vote.

Second and third year students will need a valid college ID to vote. Only students who have enrolled to the Delhi University colleges before September 9, (5 PM) will be eligible to cast their votes.
