Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday addressed key issues facing the national capital, including waterlogging and air pollution.
She claimed that the government had taken strong preventive measures this year to avoid flooding, carrying out extensive de-silting of both major and minor drains while also identifying and working on waterlogging-prone hotspots.

The Chief Minister said that the cleaning of drains helped reduce waterlogging during the monsoon. “Despite heavy rainfall this season, water drained out in time, which was the direct result of the work undertaken by the government,” she added.
Gupta further stated that by monitoring the river flow and managing barrage gates effectively along with shutting drain regulators that open into the Yamuna during high flow flooding was restricted to the river’s floodplains, which she described as a natural phenomenon. She contrasted this with 2023, when the city had witnessed severe flooding.
Looking ahead to winter, Gupta said the government is prepared to tackle rising air pollution. Speaking at the Panchjanya Infra Confluence, she highlighted steps such as deploying water sprinklers, mounting smog guns on buildings, and installing mist sprayers on electric poles at identified locations to control dust.
The government is also promoting electric vehicles to reduce emissions from petrol and diesel cars, and developing ten ‘Namo Vans’ across the city to increase forest cover.
Criticizing the previous government, Gupta dismissed the odd-even scheme as ineffective in curbing pollution.
