Rattled by documents pertaining to his acquiring agricultural property going viral on social media, BJP leader K Annamalai on Friday clarified that he had purchased the property in Coimbatore district to pursue his passion for organic farming and to start a dairy.
According to him, this was the first and only immovable property he had purchased so far, and he had also applied for a loan to start the dairy under the PMEGP scheme, which is currently being processed.

Confirming that he had bought the property at Kalapatti in compliance with all state laws, the former state BJP president said in a statement: “Yes, it’s true that I recently purchased agricultural land on 12th July 2025. I have purchased the land with a combination of debt and savings from my wife and me. Monthly interest has been paid for the past two months by me for the debt component through my bank account… We have complied with all the relevant state laws, and we have paid stamp duty and registration tax, etc., to the state government, amounting to Rs 40,59,220.”

Countering the allegation that he was not present at the time of registration, he said, “For people who say that I purchased the land without my presence on the day of registration, they have to understand that the purchase of an immovable property also works by granting power of attorney. I have given the power of attorney to my wife, Smt. Akila, at the Kalapatti registrar office on 10th July, with me being physically present on that date.”
While he has been ridiculed in social media memes for goat rearing earlier, particularly by those opposed to the BJP, the former IPS officer made it clear that natural farming has always been his passion, and his political commitments gave him little time to pursue it. Now that he has been relieved as president of the state unit of the saffron party, he could engage in that along with his political work. Besides being passionate about natural farming, his foundation, ‘We the Leaders, ’ has been engaged in spreading it.
“Since becoming the state president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu and, up until April 2025, I had very little time for myself and my family. I am taking up legal means of business now for my family and to secure the future of my children,” read the statement, explaining the reason for acquiring the land. On his plans in the pipeline, Annamalai said, “I’m in the process of starting another early investment company to help our youths with aspirations to fulfil their dreams by investing in social enterprises and start-ups. We are focusing on first-generation enterprises that will create jobs and wealth for our society. We will be making our first set of investments soon.”
