Vice President-elect CP Radhakrishnan resigned as Maharashtra Governor on Thursday, while Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat was assigned additional charge of the state.
Radhakrishnan has been holding the post of Maharashtra Governor since July 31, 2024.

BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate Radhakrishnan was elected as the 15th Vice President of India on Tuesday.

PC Mody, Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha announced the results of the Vice-Presidential Election 2025 in the evening. While CP Radhakrishnan secured 452 first preference votes, his INDIA bloc rival B Sudershan Reddy got 300 votes.
“NDA nominee and Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan got 452 first preference votes. He has been elected as the Vice President of India… Opposition’s vice-presidential candidate Justice Sudershan Reddy secured 300 first preference votes,” Mody told a briefing.
A total of 767 electors cast their votes, of which 15 were declared invalid and 752 were valid.
Although Radhakrishnan’s victory was certain, given the ruling NDA had enough numbers in both houses of Parliament, the Opposition still put up a spirited fight in a contest billed as an “ideological battle”.
Radhakrishnan will succeed Jagdeep Dhankhar, whose sudden resignation in July had necessitated the election for the Vice President of India.
