Hoax bomb threat yet again: Delhi CM’s Secretariat, MAMC, UCMS targetted

An email, received through on Tuesday morning, threatened to detonate the Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi Secretariat and the University College of Medical Sciences. The bomb threat, however, turned out to be a ‘hoax’.

According to a police official, the entire area was screened after the receipt of the threat mail. Now that the bomb threat has turned out to be a hoax, the culprit behind the email will be tracked down and relevant legal action will be taken against him.

The official said upon receipt of the threat, an immediate and coordinated action was initiated as per the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Teams (BDDS/BDT) conducted thorough checks and scans at both MAMC and the Secretariat premises.

Similarly, the UCMS which falls under the Shahdara district, was also thoroughly screened by teams of the concerned agency after evacuating the college premises without causing panic. Appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety and security of all present on the premises.

A senior official has said preliminary assessment of the email shows striking similarity with previous such hoax emails, with indications that the message may have been intended for a location in another state.

However, this was treated seriously and all SOPs were meticulously followed.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Central district, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kamla Market, and Station House Officer Indraprastha Estate police station reached the CM’s secretariat and conducted the anti- sabotage checks and screening.

The Inspector (Anti Terrorist Operations) ATO monitored the checks at the MAMC, while the Cyber SHO of the central district examined the origin and authenticity of the threat email.

Agencies, including the DDMA, Traffic Police, and the Delhi Police Special Cell were roped in to respond to any eventuality.

Meanwhile, in the Shahdara district, the information regarding the bomb threat at UCMS was received at around 11 am. As soon as the police were informed, following the procedures, teams reached the spot and checked every corner with the help of the Bomb Detection Squad.

At around 1.30 pm, the premises were announced cleared from any threat and the bomb threat a hoax.

Earlier too, there have been several such instances of hoax bomb threat emails that targeted schools in the national capital.
