Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta sent over 50 trucks with relief material for Punjab’s flood-hit families from the Delhi BJP office on Sunday, describing it as “not just aid, but the love and support of the people of Delhi”.

Gupta said the floods in Punjab have displaced thousands of families. The Delhi government is committed to standing with them in this hour of crisis. “These trucks are carrying not just food and medicines but Delhi’s solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Punjab,” she said.

The consignment includes food grains, drinking water, clothes, tarpaulins, medicines, sanitary kits, milk powder for children, and other essentials, officials from CMO noted. The collection and packaging of the material was organised at a war footing to ensure swift delivery to affected areas, the chief minister added.

On Saturday, the Delhi government contributed Rs 5 crore to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Gupta said she had personally spoken to Punjab CM to assure him that Delhi would provide all necessary assistance until the situation normalises.

BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva, who was also present on the occasion, said the relief effort was in the spirit of service. “This is not a favour but an act of humanity when we stand by someone in times of hardship. Our organisation teaches us the same spirit of service. The chief minister has already contributed five crore rupees as aid to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Fund,” he said.

Sachdeva added that while ration is available in Punjab to manage the situation, there is a shortage of resources to prepare and store it. “That is why, in addition to food items, we are sending utensils, mosquito nets, blankets, medicines, shoes, slippers, and tarpaulins. This is our effort for the people of Punjab, who are not only the nation’s food providers but also its border guardians,” he said.

“Delhi and Punjab are not just neighbours but are bound by strong cultural and emotional ties. In times of natural calamity, we must stand together as one family,” Gupta said, invoking the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. She added that Delhi has learned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s example of extending solidarity even beyond national borders in times of crisis.

Calling Punjab the “jewel of the nation”, the chief minister said that the state has always contributed to India and the world. She prayed for the people of Punjab to find the strength to overcome the disaster and expressed confidence that with collective support, Punjab will soon return to the path of development and prosperity.
