CM Yogi, while remembering the bravery of the Gorkha soldiers, said that “the foundation of the glorious heritage is an inspiration for the coming generations. Today, the whole world has acknowledged the strength of the Indian Army. Even the British could not face the Gorkha soldiers and had to enter into a treaty.”

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed the Bhoomi Pujan of the museum with Vedic chanting and offered prayers at the Maa Kali temple located in the premises. During this, a short film based on the working style of Gorkha Recruiting Depot (GRD) was screened, in which the stories of the brave soldiers of the Gorkha Regiment were presented lively.

CM Yogi said that when we discuss the bravery of the Indian Army, the name of the Gorkha soldiers comes first.

“When they attack the enemy with the slogan ‘Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali’, the enemy is forced to retreat. In the British-Gorkha War of 1816, the British Army had to agree to a treaty. After that, Gorkha soldiers also showed their bravery in the British Army. Even in independent India, they forced the enemies to kneel on various fronts,” he added.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan was also present in the program.

Thanking CDS General Anil Chauhan, he said that attending this program despite his busy schedule shows his dedication towards the Gorkha Regiment.

CDS Chauhan thanked the Yogi government and said that this memorial will become a symbol of civil-military fusion.

He called it important for three reasons: first, recognition of the close relationship between Gorkha soldiers and the Indian Army, second, their centuries-old selfless service and bravery and third, commitment to strengthen India-Nepal relations.

CDS said, “Today is the time for change. We envision a developed India, but the past should not be forgotten. The sacrifice of Gorkha soldiers is an inspiration for us, which will inspire the coming generation. This museum will digitally present the glorious history of the Gorkha Regiment. The stories of brave soldiers will come alive through digital sound and light shows. 7D theatre, mural paintings on the walls, and video documentaries will be the centre of attraction.”
