The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday observed a statewide bandh in Bihar to protest against remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the Mahagathbandhan’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday observed a statewide bandh in Bihar to protest against remarks allegedly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the INDIA Bloc’s ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Darbhanga.
The bandh, held from 7 a.m. to noon, witnessed BJP and its allies taking to the streets demanding an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Condeming the derogatory remarks made against PM Modi’s late mother, the BJP MP said, “It is very shameful that PM Modi’s late mother was abused and they have not apologised till now. I want to tell Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav that if someone from our party had used this kind of language, we would have taken strict action against him.”

Protests were reported in various districts including Siwan, Darbhanga, Ara, and parts of Patna, where shops were forced shut and traffic disrupted.
Some schools in Patna were closed as a precaution, though normal movement was seen around key intersections under heavy police deployment.
NDA leaders said the remarks were an insult not only to PM Modi’s mother but to “140 crore Indians,” highlighting Bihar’s cultural traditions of reverence for maternal power (matrushakti).
The BJP Mahila Morcha led strong demonstrations, with women leaders condemning the statement as an attack on society and values.
Accusing the opposition for maintaining silence, the NDA warned that the agitation would intensify if action is not taken, declaring the issue a matter of honour and cultural respect.
