Superman fans have some exciting news to look forward to! Actor David Corenswet, who won hearts in James Gunn’s rebooted ‘Superman’ earlier this year, is officially putting the cape back on. The sequel now has a name and release date, and the announcement has sent DC fans into celebration mode.
Director James Gunn, who also co-heads DC Films, took to social media on Wednesday to reveal the big update.

The sequel will be titled ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ and is ready to fly into theaters worldwide on July 9, 2027. Gunn accompanied his post with an iconic comic book panel showing Superman standing face-to-face with his biggest enemy, Lex Luthor.
That tease was enough for fans to guess where the story is headed.
Nicholas Hoult, who played Luthor in the first movie, is going to return. This time, Luthor will not just rely on clever plans or clones. Instead, he builds his powerful “Warsuit” to match Superman’s strength.
The first ‘Superman’, which released earlier this year, was not just a creative reset for the character but also a huge box office hit. With over \$611 million earned globally, it became the top-grossing superhero film of the year. Its success was so big that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav personally confirmed Gunn’s return as both writer and director for the sequel.
‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow’ will arrive after two other DC titles already in the pipeline for 2026. First is ‘Supergirl’, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, which will explore adventures set in outer space. Then comes ‘Clayface’, a darker take on a classic Batman villain, starring Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie, described as a mix of superhero drama and body horror.
Interestingly, the release plan means Superman will soar back onto screens before Batman does. Matt Reeves’ much-awaited ‘The Batman Part II’ is currently dated for October 1, 2027, just a few months after ‘Man of Tomorrow’. This puts Superman at the center of DC’s movie lineup.
