Speaking to The Statesman, Mukherjee expressed his excitement, saying, “It is every teacher’s dream in this country to receive such a prestigious national award. I consider this a great recognition of the skills and achievements of a teacher.”
He added, “For the past sixteen years, I have been working as a teacher. I began my career at Tollygunge ITI and was transferred to Durgapur ITI in 2018. Incidentally, this year, two teachers from Durgapur ITI have been selected for the National Teachers’ Award in the technical education and training category. This is also a great achievement for our institution.”
Apart from teaching, Mukherjee is actively involved in acting, scriptwriting, directing short films and writing song lyrics. He is immensely popular among his students for his all-round abilities in addition to his academic role.
In 2025, only two teachers from West Bengal were selected for the National Teachers’ Award in the technical education and training category, and both are engaged at Durgapur ITI in West Burdwan district.
