Four Republicans join Democrats as House votes to curb Trump’s Iran war powers
The closely contested vote exposed divisions within the Republican Party while renewing debate over Congress' authority to approve extended military operations overseas.
Trump has surprised fans by congratulating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on their engagement, marking a surprising shift from his past criticisms and social media attacks on the pop star.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are now engaged, and one unexpected figure chimed in with support: US President Donald Trump.
Just three weeks ago, Donald Trump had called Taylor Swift a “woke singer” who is “no longer hot.” But the moment the engagement news broke, he seemed to forget all past criticisms. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Trump wished the couple “a lot of luck” and praised both Taylor and Travis.

“I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy,” Trump said about Kelce. Then, surprisingly, he added about Swift, “And I think that she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

That’s a major turnaround for a feud that has lasted years.
Trump’s one-sided rivalry with Swift began in 2018. Back then, she publicly supported Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen over Republican Marsha Blackburn in Tennessee.
“I’m sure Taylor Swift knows nothing,” Trump said at the time. “I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, OK?” Over the years, Trump’s social media posts often targeted her, even going so far as to celebrate her being “booed out of the Super Bowl”, a game in which Kelce was actually playing.

Meanwhile, Kelce has mostly stayed above the political fray. Before the Super Bowl in February, he reacted to the news that Trump might attend with grace.
“That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” Kelce said. “No matter who the president is, I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life. And having the president there, it’s the best country in the world, that’s pretty cool.”
Trump’s opinions have shifted unpredictably. Last September, he expressed a preference for Brittany Mahomes, the wife of Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes, over Swift. This is the same person who once thought that posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” online would make fans turn against her. It didn’t.
Kelce, meanwhile, remained unfazed. On his podcast, he openly gushed about Swift, complimenting her for being “so hot when she says big words.”
The couple’s engagement announcement perfectly reflects their personalities and playful chemistry. They shared a joint Instagram post set to the song ‘So High School’ by The Tortured Poets Department, which includes the lyric, “You know how to ball, I know Aristotle.”
Their caption read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” Fans loved the mix of intellect, humor, and romance in the post.
