It’s been two days since Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public meeting at her official residence in the national capital and no visuals of the incident have made it to the public domain so far. Now, the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has raised questions over the unavailability of CCTV footage of the incident that sent shockwaves across the city.
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj Friday accused the Delhi Police of attempting to hide the CCTV footage of the attack in a bid to cover their failure.

“We are glad that in Rekha Gupta’s case, the police have registered an FIR, but I believe that the police are hiding the CCTV footage of the incident to cover up their failure,” Bharadwaj told news agency ANI.
Comparing the incident with previous such attacks on former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Bharadwaj alleged that the cases involving the AAP convenor were deliberately kept “weak”. He added that the Delhi Police had done the right thing this time to register a case of “attempt to murder”.
“It was the duty of the police to register a case of ‘attempt to murder’ in such attacks earlier, and the accused should have been taken into police custody so that such activities do not happen again, as was done in the case of Rekha Gupta. But in Arvind Kejriwal’s case, the matter was deliberately kept weak, security was lax, and whenever an attack occurred, it was said that the people of Delhi are angry,” the AAP leader said.
He pointed out that no one has so far seen the CCTV footage of CM Rekha Gupta’s attack incident, while the attacks on Arvind Kejriwal were recorded and streamed everywhere.
Rekha Gupta attack investigation update
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police today detained a friend of the main accused Rajesh Khimji, in Rajkot. The unidentified friend has been picked up for allegedly transferring money into Rajesh’s account. The Delhi Police is also keeping a watch on 10 other people who were in contact with the accused through calls and messages.
Rajesh had attacked and assaulted Delhi CM Gupta at her Civil Lines residence on Wednesday during the Jan Sunvai programme. The accused was swiftly nabbed and was later sent to five-day police custody.
Meanwhile, CM Gupta Friday attended her first public programme since the attack two days ago. She travelled to Ashok Bazar in Gandhi Nagar to take part in a scheduled event.
The police put in place tight security measures and paramilitary police personnel were also deployed to ensure security for the Delhi chief minister.
CM Rekha Gupta’s security has already been upgraded to Z-category following the attack. Her security is being provided by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Earlier, on Thursday, the CM had spoken on the issue and reaffirmed her commitment to public service. Gupta posted on X that she would continue her work for the people of Delhi despite facing “unexpected blows”.
