The first edition of Tri-services seminar, Ran Samwad- Conversations on War, Warfare, and Warfighting’ is being organised by the Headquarters Integrated Defence Services at Army War College, Dr Ambedkar Nagar, formerly known as Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.

The two-day seminar slated to be held from August 26, will see a series of seminars pertaining to transformations taking place in war, warfare and warfighting on global level. Addressing a media briefing here on Wednesday, Lt Gen Vipul Singhal, while speaking about the need of being upgraded with the latest technology, said, “Ignoring technology in warfare is like fighting tomorrow’s war with yesterday’s maps.”

He emphasised that technology is irrevocably changing warfare, and it is crucial to study its impact to be ready for future conflicts. “We cannot stop technology from changing warfare. This is already happening. All we can do is study the impact of it so that when we are in the next conflict, we are ready.”

Stating that humanity is at the cusp of a major transformation in warfare, Singhal said that the upcoming change is driven by advancements such as unmanned systems coupled with AI. “ If we miss the bus today, then we will always be behind the curve. This is the aim of holding a seminar called Ran Samvad,” he said.

The seminar will be divided into two parts, carrying themes; Emerging Technologies and Impact on Future Warfare, and Reforms in Institutionalised Training to Catalyse Technological Enablement.

Stating that the seminar will be an annual feature, the officials further stated that the participants will be actual practitioners of war, people whose primary job is to fight and defend the country.

During the seminar, three joint doctrines pertaining to Multi-domain operations, Special Forces Operations, and Airborne and Heliborne Operations will be signed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, will be attending the seminar alongwith defence attaches of 17 countries, including Armenia, Australia, Bangladesh, Burundi, the EU, France, Germany, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, South Korea, Sri Lanka, the USA, Vietnam, and Zambia.
