The Communist Party of India has come out strongly against the three Bills that were tabled in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday by Home Minister Amit Shah. After ruckus in Parliament, the three Bills were referred to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.
Condemning the introduction of the three Bills, namely the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, the CPI said the legislations are an attempt by the RSS-BJP combine to curtail democracy and crush the opposition. The party alleged the Bills strike at the very foundations of federalism and fair governance.

Noting that the proposed amendments empower Governors to remove elected Chief Ministers and ministers if they are kept in custody for thirty consecutive days on charges carrying a punishment of five years or more, the CPI said in a release that such provisions are draconian as they permit dismissal without trial or conviction.
CPI Rajya Sabha leader P Sandosh Kumar said, “These Bills are a weapon to open the floodgates of vendetta politics. The BJP, which misuses agencies like the ED and CBI against political opponents, will now have a free hand to destabilise elected governments. Any Chief Minister or Minister can be arrested and summarily removed, allowing the ruling party to decide who governs in the States. This destroys federalism and the level playing field in politics.”
The party has called for strong protests against the Bills, both inside and outside Parliament. These legislations, if allowed to pass, will seriously damage the federal structure of our country and endanger the democratic rights of the people, it added.
