The kiss cam scandal: Coldplay frontman, Chris Martin, is showing the world that a positive attitude can turn even the trickiest situations into a moment of fun.

The singer was all smiles on Monday night (August 18) as his band returned to the UK for a concert at Craven Park in Kingston upon Hull. But the real headline wasn’t just the music. It was Martin’s lighthearted take on a bizarre episode that went viral earlier this summer.

Here’s a quick reminder: on July 16, during a Coldplay show at Gillette Stadium in Boston, the stadium’s Kiss Cam caught a married tech CEO and his company’s lead HR staffer sharing a friendly embrace. Things quickly went sideways when the couple tried to duck out of frame, revealing that their “friendly” moment was actually an affair.

The incident didn’t stay private for long. Social media erupted with memes, the CEO resigned, and the scandal became global news.

Even Martin’s ex-wife, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, reportedly got involved in a playful PR twist as a “temporary spokesperson.”

Fast forward to Hull, and Martin finally addressed the infamous Kiss Cam moment. In true Chris Martin style, he made it funny rather than awkward. According to NME, he told the audience, “We are so happy to be here. Many of you have written signs. So, I’ll take some time to try and read some signs. Then we’ll see what happens.” He paused to read a fan’s sign that said, “Three times in three months… you were at that Boston gig!” Martin laughed and responded, “Well, OK, thank you for coming again after that debacle.”

“We’ve been doing this a long time, and it is only recently that it became a… yeah. Life throws you lemons and you’ve got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you,” he told the cheering crowd.

The singer didn’t stop at playful commentary. He also singled out a fan in a bright pink tank top, jokingly singing, “Hello, my beautiful brother. Thank you for dressing in that pink thing. Before today I didn’t think I was gay. Now I’ve got to do some serious thinkin’.”

Monday’s Hull show was just one stop on Coldplay’s busy UK tour. The band will return to Craven Park for a second night on August 19 before heading to Wembley Stadium for a 10-show finale.
