Suspecting infidelity, a man allegedly drugged his wife with sleeping pills and poison, murdered her, and then, along with two accomplices, buried her body in a graveyard in South Delhi’s Chandanholla, police said on Tuesday.
The deceased, a 30-year-old woman and mother of two children, a daughter (11) and a son (5), had been missing since August 10, after which an FIR was registered at Mehrauli police station.

Ankit Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said, “The victim’s body was exhumed from the graveyard after eleven days, on August 15, in the presence of police officers and the area Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).”
Adding to his statement further, he mentioned that the prime suspect, Shabab Ali, 47, a painter by profession, was arrested along with his associates Tanveer Khan (25) and Shahrukh Khan (28).
“The car that was used in the commission of the crime was also confiscated, and efforts are ongoing to trace one more absconding accused,” DCP Chauhan added.
The officer said, “The matter came to light when a female friend of the victim informed the police that the woman, a resident of T-Block in Mehrauli, had been missing, after which a missing complaint was registered at Mehrauli police station on August 10, suspecting wrongful confinement.”
While probing into the case, the technical surveillance and CCTV footage were analysed by the officer, in which it was revealed that on July 31, Ali, along with his associates, was transporting the woman in an unconscious state in a car.
“During the sustained interrogation with Ali, he broke down, admitting to having murdered his wife on August 2,” said the DCP.
He told the investigators that he had initially administered sleeping pills laced with poisonous weedicide to his wife to kill his wife, and with the help of his associates, Ali carried away the body of the victim in the intervening night of August 2 and 3, burying it in the Chandanholla graveyard.
After his confession, the grave was ascertained, and the body was exhumed on Friday. The forensic experts were called to examine the remains, the officer said.
The arrested accused, Ali, a resident of Ward No. 8 Mehrauli and native of Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha; Shahrukh, an electrician from Chandanholla; and Tanveer, a painter from Bihar’s Araria district, are currently being interrogated further by the cops, police said.
Moreover, the car used to transport and dispose of the body was recovered from the accused, Shahrukh, DCP Chauhan said, adding that efforts are being made to nab one more accused who is at large now, said police.
