A District Reserve Guard (DRG) constable was killed and three others injured on Monday morning when Maoists triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Indravati National Park area of Bijapur district, Bastar division. The slain jawan Dinesh Nag, was accorded a tearful farewell with full state honours in Bijapur. Senior officials, including Bastar Range Inspector General of Police P. Sundarraj, local legislators and public representatives, joined colleagues and residents to pay their last respects.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, expressing grief over the incident, said, “The martyrdom of DRG jawan Dinesh Nag will not go in vain. Naxalites, frustrated by the ongoing campaign to eradicate extremism in Bastar, resort to such cowardly acts. Our resolve to end Naxal violence is unwavering and we will succeed.” The Chief Minister also prayed for peace to the departed soul and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery.

According to police, the IED blast occurred when the DRG team was on an anti-Naxal operation in the forested terrain of Indravati. Nag died on the spot, while the three injured troopers were airlifted to Raipur and are stated to be out of danger.
Nag, who joined the Chhattisgarh Police in 2017-18, actively participated in several successful anti-Naxal encounters during his eight-year service. He is survived by his parents, a brother, two sisters, wife Pooja Nag, a nine-year-old son and is also expecting another child, leaving the family in deep shock.
At the wreath laying ceremony, hundreds of people gathered to pay their respects to Nag’s supreme sacrifice. Inspector General Sundarraj praised the fallen jawan, stating, “Our personnel are displaying exemplary courage in the fight against Maoist violence. This sacrifice will inspire us to carry forward the battle with renewed determination.” Officials emphasised that the State’s counter-insurgency campaign will only intensify, affirming that the courage of martyrs like Nag strengthens the resolve of the security forces to restore lasting peace in Bastar region.
