Stepping up its crackdown on corrupt practices in government offices, the Odisha Vigilance has arrested four government functionaries in three separate bribery cases.
“Four government functionaries, including 2 health staffers of the office of the Chief District Medical Officer, Parlakhemundi; a health staffer of the Muniguda Community Health Centre in Rayagada; and a junior clerk of the office of the Block Education Office, Mahakalpada, in Kendrapara district, caught red-handed while receiving bribes yesterday, were arrested today by Odisha Vigilance in bribery cases and are being forwarded to the Vigilance courts,” the Vigilance Directorate said in a statement on Thursday.

Further, following the trap of Jagdish Pattnaik, Clerk, along with Niranjan Nayak, Peon at the office of CDMO, Parlakhemundi, searches were carried out by Vigilance teams. Rs 5,19,700 cash was recovered from the table drawer of Pattnaik and Rs 1.5 lakh from his government quarter at Parlakhemundi. Total cash seizure comes to Rs 6,69,700. The cash appears to be ill-gotten bribery money. The clerk is being interrogated to ascertain the source of the same, it added.
