Ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the state government has enhanced the security cover of six key political figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav.
Among other leaders whose security has been beefed up are independent MP from Purnia Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, BJP MP from Araria Pradeep Kumar Singh, JDU MLA from Barh Gyanendra Singh Gyanu, and JDU Chief Spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar.

The Home Department issued the orders following recommendations from the State Security Committee meeting held on 1 August.
Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary’s security has been upgraded to Z+ category following a recent surge in his popularity and reported death threats.
Former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav’s security has been elevated to Z category amid concerns raised by the Opposition and RJD leaders about lapses in his security. His mother and former chief minister Rabri Devi had recently stated that Tejashwi’s life was at risk.
The RJD leader had narrowly escaped a major mishap after a truck allegedly hit his convoy in June, injuring three of his security personnel including a sub-inspector, a constable and a driver.
A few days later, two bike-borne miscreants had opened fire in a daring robbery outside Tejashwi Yadav’s official residence located in the high security zone of Patna.
Pappu Yadav’s security cover has been upgraded to Y+ category. He had written to both Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting increased security due to alleged threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar will get Y category security, following tensions with former MLA and strongman, which had heated up Bihar’s political landscape.
Security cover of MP Pradeep Kumar Singh and MLA Gyanendra Singh Gyanu has been increased to Y+ category.
