Will ECI do justice or not: Akhilesh demands a debate

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav said there should be a debate on whether the Election Commission of India (ECI) will do justice or not.

“It is very important for the election commission itself to come clean on the allegations of vote theft that have been leveled against it to secure its credibility and electoral transparency. If the public loses faith in a constitutional institution, the result will not be good. It seems the BJP is the University of Electoral Corruption,” he said in a statement here on Sunday.

He said, “BJP has created the maximum number of fake votes but its electoral tactics have now been exposed. The BJP, in connivance with some people, sometimes adds the names of its supporters as fake voters and in collusion with the election officials, sometimes removes the names of its opponents from the voter list. It gives a target to its select officials engaged in the elections as to how many fake votes are to be cast. In a video, a man was claiming to cast six votes each”.

The SP president said this apprehension now seems true that in the last election, the BJP had won more than two dozen seats by getting the votes cast against it rejected and changing the certificates of victory under the pressure of DM.

“Samajwadi Party had given 18,000 affidavits to the ECI in the cases of tampering with the voter list. Till date, it is not known what action was taken on them. The Commission has sat idle. If action had been taken, fake work would not have happened,” he said, adding, “One thing is clear as daylight that the credibility of the Election Commission has fallen to a great extent in the eyes of the public.”
