The newly released film ‘Kingdom’, starring Vijay Devarakonda, has run into trouble in Tamil Nadu. Some Tamil groups are angry about how Sri Lankan Tamils are shown in the movie, especially because the main villain is named Murugan, which is also a widely respected name in Tamil culture.
Due to this, protests have broken out in different parts of the state. Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), a pro-Tamil political group led by Seeman, has been actively opposing the film. NTK members have interrupted screenings and called for action against the movie, saying it shows Sri Lankan Tamils in a negative light.

Worried about these protests turning violent, the film’s production company, SSI Productions, went to the Madras High Court. They asked for police protection for theatres showing the film so that the screenings can continue without any problems.
They also requested the court to stop Seeman and his party workers from disturbing the lawful release of the film.
Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy heard the matter. The Tamil Nadu state police, through a government lawyer, told the court that they would provide protection to theatres if needed. The judge noted that since the censor board has already approved the film, no one has the right to block its release.
The judge made it clear that people are free to disagree with the movie, but protests must be peaceful and follow the law. He said that if anyone threatens or disturbs the screenings, the police must take strict action against them.
At the same time, the court said that NTK and Seeman can express their views and hold protests, but only if they get proper permission from the police and follow the rules.
Gowtam Tinnanuri directed ‘Kingdom’, and it is the production of Sithara Entertainments.
