Sunil Kumar Choudhary, commissioner of police, ADPC, stated that the investigation is progressing in the right direction. He confirmed that further raids will be conducted and assured that no one involved will be spared.

The commissioner also revealed that the main accused, Parijat Ganguly—a member of the BJP’s state Yuva Morcha—is currently absconding. He added that 15 to 20 individuals were involved in the incident, all of whom have been identified and will face legal action.

A video clip showing the attack on farmers transporting cattle in mini trucks near Gamon Bridge has gone viral, drawing widespread attention.

Narendra Nath Chakraborty, district president of the Trinamul Congress (TMC), visited the victims’ homes and led a protest march, including a human chain organised by TMC Yuva at Benachity Panchmatha More on Monday. TMC supporters also staged a demonstration outside the police station, demanding the arrest of all those responsible.

Lakhsman Chandra Ghorui, MLA of Durgapur West, denied any party affiliation with the accused. He condemned the attack and refuted the TMC’s allegations, asserting that the party is not connected to the case.

The cattle-laden vehicle was travelling from Asuria cattle market in Bankura to Jemua village in Durgapur when it was intercepted near Gamon Bridge by alleged cattle vigilantes. The victims were reportedly tied up and brutally assaulted last Wednesday. The footage of the incident has since gone viral, sparking public outrage.

Locals noted that such incidents are unprecedented in West Bengal, though they are more common in other states.

The Congress, CPI-M and ISF have also issued strong statements condemning the attack.
