Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the people affected by the recent tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. In a post on handle X, PM Modi prayed for the well-being of all the victims and assured that the government is working tirelessly to provide assistance.

Several people were feared dead while more than 50 people were reportedly missing after a massive cloudburst triggered a landslide and flash flood in Dharali village of Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday. The cloudburst that struck on the hilltop above the Kheer Ganga river caused widespread devastation as several houses, hotels, and buildings were swept away in the flash flood.

“I express my condolences to the people affected by this tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. Along with this, I pray for the well-being of all the victims,” the Prime Minister said in his post.

PM Modi said he has spoken to Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami and obtained information about the situation. Relief and rescue teams are working under the state government’s supervision to provide every possible assistance, he said

Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Uttarakhand Chief Minister and took stock of the situation following the devastating cloudburst. Home Ministry sources confirmed that Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the National Disaster Response Force have been directed to reach the affected area immediately to assist in rescue and relief operations.
