Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday hailed the inauguration of a 500-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant and the launch of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) in the Delhi Legislative Assembly as a major step forward in institutional accountability and environmental stewardship.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated the new infrastructure at the Assembly, accompanied by Speaker Vijender Gupta. Other senior Delhi BJP leaders present included Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, Power Minister Ashish Sood, and Delhi BJP Vice President Abhay Verma.

According to an official statement, the solar power initiative is expected to save the Assembly up to ₹15 lakh per month—approximately ₹1.75 crore annually—and is projected to pay for itself quickly. The system may even generate surplus electricity through net metering.

The integration of the NeVA platform is also a key part of the Assembly’s digital transformation, facilitating a fully paperless legislative process, enhancing administrative efficiency, and significantly reducing the Assembly’s carbon footprint.

Speaking at the event, Minister Meghwal lauded the move as a model for sustainable governance across the country. He emphasized that the Delhi Assembly’s complete shift to solar energy sets a new benchmark for legislative and public institutions nationwide.

He further noted that the introduction of NeVA under the ‘One Nation, One Application’ initiative of Digital India 2.0 marks not merely a technological upgrade, but a deeper shift in institutional values.

With full implementation expected in the upcoming Monsoon Session, the Delhi Assembly will become entirely paperless. He stressed that such a fusion of environmental consciousness and administrative reform must begin at the core of democratic institutions.
