Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday praised the Yogi Adityanath government’s development efforts, hailed India’s growing self-reliance in defence, and highlighted the rich cultural and historical heritage of Kashi.
Addressing a massive public meeting at Banauli village in Sevapuri (Varanasi), the Prime Minister launched a scathing attack on the Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing it of indulging in vote-bank and appeasement politics.

Modi spotlighted Uttar Pradesh’s rapid industrial and social transformation, crediting BJP policies for attracting significant national and international investments. Contrasting the current scenario with the previous SP rule, he said criminals then operated with impunity, deterring investment. “Today, under BJP rule, criminals fear the law, and investors see a promising future in UP,” he stated.
Expressing pride in the UP Defence Corridor, the Prime Minister said, “As an MP from UP, I am proud that BrahMos missiles will now be manufactured in Lucknow.” He added that weapons produced in UP would bolster the Indian Army’s strength. Issuing a stern warning to Pakistan, he declared, “Any future misadventure will be met with missiles made in UP.”
Highlighting major welfare schemes, Modi said over 2.5 crore farmers in UP have received more than ₹90,000 crore under the PM-Kisan scheme, including ₹900 crore for farmers in Kashi alone. He also spoke about the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ initiative, aimed at empowering 3 crore women nationwide—1.5 crore of whom have already achieved the goal. Taking a dig at SP, he quipped, “SP leaders will flee with their bicycles after hearing these figures.”
Speaking about Sewapuri’s development, the Prime Minister said it was a privilege to visit the doorstep of Maa Kalka Devi, noting the temple’s recent grand renovation. He also mentioned key infrastructure projects, such as the Chandpur–Bhadohi Road, which will improve connectivity and benefit Banaras silk weavers and Bhadohi artisans.
Praising the UP-government’s performance, he said he was satisfied that the “Maha Yagya” of development was continuing in Kashi. Recalling Sewapuri’s role in India’s freedom struggle, he noted the region’s legacy of revolutionaries and its connection to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision—when spinning wheels were found in every household.
Highlighting the spiritual fervour of the Sawan month, Modi described the devotion of Shiva followers carrying Gangajal in Kashi. He especially mentioned the tradition of Yadav brothers departing from Gauri Kedareshwar to offer Jalabhishek to Baba on the first Monday of Sawan, calling the scene—echoing with damru beats and devotional chants—a divine experience.
Sharing a personal sentiment, Modi said he had wished to visit Baba Vishwanath and Markandeya Mahadev during Sawan. However, to avoid causing inconvenience to fellow devotees, he chose to offer his prayers from the stage in Sevapuri. Paying homage in Bhojpuri, he said, “We are paying our obeisance to Baba Kashi Vishwanath from this stage of Sevapuri. Namah Parvati Pataye, Har Har Mahadev.”
Reiterating his criticism of the Samajwadi Party, Modi accused it of shielding terrorists during its rule. He mocked SP leaders for questioning why terrorists in Pahalgam were killed, sarcastically asking, “Should I call them to ask whether to kill terrorists or not? Should we wait for them to escape?” He alleged that the SP government had withdrawn cases against bomb blast accused and given clean chits to terrorists. “They have a problem with terrorists being killed,” he said.
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister declared from the land of Kashi, “This is New India. It worships Bholenath and becomes Kaal Bhairav before its enemies.”
