Another employee from the same company, Sumit Sharma, from UP’s Ghaziabad, was admitted to the hospital with a fractured leg, said the police.

“It was found that Walchera, along with other employees of the organization, was having a birthday bash when a scuffle broke out involving a local momo vendor, Salman,” said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). “To verify, the group visited the paper market in Ghazipur at around 10:30 pm in three cars.”

“At the wine shop near the CNG pump, they identified Salman, who, upon seeing them, retrieved a rod and called his associates Azad Mishra, Monu Mishra, and others,” the officer continued in his statement.

Adding to it, Dhania said, “In the violent scuffle that followed, Vikas Walecha was fatally stabbed, and others, including Sumit Sharma, were injured.”

With this information, police filed a case at the Gazipur police station under sections 103 (murder), 109(1) (attempted murder), 191(2) (rioting), and 3(5) (common intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

During the preliminary investigation, the cops scanned the CCTV footage and analysed the number plate recognition camera footage to ascertain both forward and backwards linkages and to trace the accused.

The police said they got their hands on Salman Khan, 24; Azad Kumar Mishra, 31; and Monu Mishra, 28, and also apprehended one juvenile within hours.

The officer mentioned that they have confiscated the iron rod and knife used in the attack from the crime scene.

Further investigation into this case is ongoing to trace if more people are involved in the crime as well as to ascertain the motive behind the attack, said the police.
