Defying the Madhya Pradesh Assembly’s recent order banning protests inside the Assembly premises, the opposition Congress MLAs staged a ‘chameleon’ protest on Monday depicting the “changing colours” of the state government on the issue of 27 per cent reservation to the Other Backward Classes.
The monsoon session of the MP Assembly began on Monday, and the Congress MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar gathered in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in the premises.

They held toy chameleons and placards in their hands protesting against the state government’s attitude over the OBC reservation.
The opposition MLAs conveyed two messages with the protest. First, they targeted the Mohan Yadav-led BJP government on the OBC reservation issue, and second, they defied Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar’s orders banning all kinds of protests, sloganeering and demonstrations in the premises during the monsoon session from July 28 to August 8.
