BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s accusation that Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy was colluding with the BJP has resulted in an ugly spat with BJP MP CM Ramesh, who has counter-accused that Rao had approached him with the proposal to merge BRS with the BJP when his sister Kavitha was incarcerated.

He said KT Rama Rao was unhappy now because the proposal to merge the parties was not accepted by the BJP. Rao had accused Ramesh, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, of landing a contract worth Rs 1600 crore for a road project in the Future City in Telangana under the Congress government, citing it as an instance of collusion between the BJP and Congress.

Addressing a student convention marking the merger of Telangana Rashtra Vidyarthi Sainik Parishad into the students’ wing of BRS, Rao said, “The Congress chief minister is handing out massive contracts to BJP MPs. Why is Rahul Gandhi silent on this dangerous alliance?”

KTR had earlier alleged that BJP MP from Andhra Pradesh, CM Ramesh, had helped the Congress government to secure the mortgage of Kancha Gachibowli land and had been rewarded with a road contract in the Future City. He alleged that Andhra contractors were looting Telangana in Revanth Reddy’s regime.

Lashing out at Rao, the BJP MP reminded him of the occasion when KTR had visited his house in Delhi, urging him to facilitate the merger with the BJP. He said the visit was recorded on the CCTV cameras installed at his residence.

According to Ramesh, KTR had demanded that there should be no probe against anyone, including Kavitha. He allegedly urged the BJP MP to approach the Union home minister, saying if investigations were stopped, they would merge the BRS with the BJP.

Speaking about the contract landed by his company, Ramesh said, “KTR is speaking without any knowledge about the facts. Several big companies like L&T, MEIL and Rithwik Projects competed for the Greenfield Road. According to the rules, the tender was awarded to Rithwik Projects.”

He reminded such large contracts are not done by nomination process. A miffed Ramesh even threatened to complain to the ED against KT Rama Rao, alleging “shady” trips to Maldives, Mauritius and America.

Significantly, Ramesh, Revanth Reddy and K Chandrasekhar Rao were all in the TDP in the past. While Rao formed BRS, Ramesh joined BJP after TDP lost the elections in 2019 and Revanth Reddy chose to join the Congress after the yellow party lost ground in Telangana.
